Start by checking the conditions
Look for leaves, soil, accumulated dust and areas that stay damp longer than the rest of the garden. Moss can establish in this material even when a membrane was installed underneath the lawn. Check whether shaded areas, overhanging planting or blocked drainage coincide with the growth.
Water pooling after rain may point to a construction or drainage issue. A clean cannot repair a sunken base or an obstructed outlet. Record where puddles occur and how long they remain, then discuss them when you enquire.
Remove debris before treating the surface
Follow the aftercare instructions for your specific grass. Clear loose leaves and debris with appropriate non-damaging tools, taking care around joins and edges. Avoid aggressive scraping, metal garden rakes or pulling material so hard that fibres and seams are disturbed.
Do not cover the lawn with a generic moss killer, bleach or weed treatment simply because it is sold for gardens. Any treatment needs to be suitable for synthetic grass, the backing, adhesives and nearby surfaces. Follow its instructions, including any restrictions around pets and children.
What professional maintenance can do
Saygrass artificial grass maintenance includes jet washing, power brushing and pet-safe shampoo, with the approach assessed for the lawn. Condition, access, age, loose edges and existing damage matter before work starts. Cleaning pressure and tools must suit the system; an already open join needs attention rather than forceful washing.
Tell us if a lawn has been treated previously and send photographs of the moss and wider garden. We can discuss the scope and price without asking you to book a new-installation survey for a cleaning enquiry. Repairs or base work are separate from routine maintenance.
Reduce conditions that encourage a return
Remove organic debris regularly and check edges, drains and nearby planting. An artificial lawn still needs routine care, especially in shaded gardens or heavily used areas. A maintenance schedule should reflect actual use and site conditions rather than a universal claim that one annual clean is enough.
If the area keeps becoming saturated or growth returns quickly, investigate the cause. See our problems and repairs guide. No treatment or membrane guarantees that moss can never return.
